Amphetamine is a psychostimulant drug
Amphetamines are synthetic substances that consist of such the elements as carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. NarTest NTX Drug Analyzer can detect amphetamine in single measurement procedure in few minutes.
The drug is used illegally as a recreational drug and as a performance enhancer. Recreational users of amphetamine have coined numerous nicknames for amphetamine, some of the more common street names for amphetamine include speed, crank and whizz.
Physical effects of amphetamine can include reduced appetite, increased/distorted sensations, hyperactivity, dilated pupils, flushing, restlessness, dry mouth, erectile dysfunction, headache, tachycardia, increased breathing rate, increased blood pressure, fever, sweating, diarrhea, constipation, blurred vision, impaired speech, dizziness, uncontrollable movements or shaking, insomnia, numbness, palpitations, and arrhythmia. In high doses or chronic use convulsions, dry or itchy skin, acne, pallor can occur.
According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) global seizures of amphetamine-type stimulants have continued to increase, totalling nearly 52 metric tons (mt) in 2007, surpassing their 2000 peak by nearly 3 mt. In 2006, amphetamine seizures were higher than methamphetamine. This trend continued in 2007, when amphetamine accounted for 46% of all amphetamine-type stimulants seized.
There are several indications that the global problem with amphetamine is worsening. According to the data of World Drug Report 2009 issued by UNODC, close to 30% of global seizures in 2007 were made in the Near and Middle East, where amphetamine use may also be significant.
